Our final blog for 2021
Christmas is made from moments of magic. No matter how or where you celebrate, the key ingredients remain the same: kindness, laughter, and lots of smiles. For an extra sprinkle of joy, add some delicious food to share and a lovely glass of wine.
After what feels like a very long year, we all need a little bit of magic. Relaxing with friends and spending time with the people we love is what the holidays are all about.
If you’re one of those people who’s determined to keep things simple and ‘go local’ this Christmas, then you’re in great company. Lots of our customers tell us they’re planning for ‘low key events’ with minimum stress and lots of local treats. It’s all about sharing some good times and enjoying simple pleasures.
When it comes to choosing some special wines to enjoy, we’re completely spoiled for choice in our region. There’s such a wide range of varieties. The gift of a bottle of Nelson wine is a fantastic way to say thank you, or send someone a touch of Christmas cheer — and you get to support our local businesses and growers at the same time.
Perhaps you’re one of those delightful people who continue the New Zealand tradition of leaving a surprise gift for the postie. Whoever you’re planning to surprise, Nelson wine is a great way to add a little magic to someone’s day.
If you’re on the lookout for a wine that’s light and summery this Christmas, be sure to check out some of Nelson’s fantastic Rosés. Tasting of ripe strawberries and raspberries, with just a hint of spice, Rosés go beautifully with a range of summer dishes.
Rosé is very much ‘on trend’ these days — even with the guys. In fact, so many men are enjoying Rosé that it’s got a new nickname: ‘Brosé.’ Super food-friendly, Rosé is a fantastic Nelson wine to take along to festive celebrations or ‘drinks and nibbles’ with the neighbours.
Although you might discover some interesting local styles made from Syrah and Montepulciano grapes, Nelson Rosé is usually made from Pinot Noir — and that means elegance. Thanks to its gorgeous pale pink colour, Rosé makes a very pretty and sophisticated gift — just add a bow and you’re done!
Rosé doesn’t just look Christmassy though, it’s right at home at Christmas dinner. This wine is particularly fabulous with baked ham, smoked salmon and soft cheeses. Spicy salads and smoky tofu are also fantastic matches.
Christmas is the perfect opportunity for us to say a big thank you to all our customers. We really do appreciate your support, during what has been another tumultuous year. We love that you love our wines as much as we do!
As a small family-owned and operated business, we really value our local connections and the tremendous support of our Nelson communities. We’d like to wish our friends in hospitality all the best for Christmas. We hope the Christmas elves send you a great holiday season and a prosperous and enjoyable 2022.
We’d also like to raise a glass to our growers and winemakers who work hard all year to bring us fantastic wines, even in the toughest of seasons. Word has it that one of our growers has actually written to Santa to ask for some sunny weather. We wouldn’t blame them for trying — the drizzly weather we’ve been having lately is not at all good for grapes! We really hope their wish comes true!
From the team at Kahurangi, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. We hope you all get to relax, put the worries of the year aside, and enjoy a little magic this Christmas.
